We will discuss recent progress on the computation of black hole entropy and the entropy of Hawking radiation. This involves an area formula that computes the fine grained or von Neumann entropy of black hole. The result is consistent with unitarity.

Juan Maldacena is the Carl Feinberg  professor at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Princeton, NJ, USA. He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1968. He graduated from the Instituto Balseiro in Argentina in 1991. He received a Ph.D.  from Princeton University in 1996. He was then a  professor at Harvard before joining the Institute in 2001. His research interests include quantum field theory, quantum gravity and string theory. He has been studying relationships between quantum systems and gravity. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Third World Academy of Siences, etc. His awards include the Dannie Heinaman prize, the Dirac Prize, the Einstein Medal, the Mac Arthur fellowship, the fundamental physics prize, etc.
